Join Commissioned by Christ’s Lenten Challenge!
Instead of Giving Up, Give More.
Background
Lent is a season of penance, reflection, and fasting which prepares us for Christ’s Resurrection on Easter Sunday, through which we attain redemption. For many Catholics, the first thought that Lent brings to mind is giving something up. Just as CBC’s tagline is “Short term Missions. Lifelong Faith,” the Commissioned by Christ Lenten Challenge aims to demonstrate that Lent is also a short-term 40-day mission towards lifelong faith. Instead of just giving up something, we give more of ourselves to Christ and His way of life, by answering His Great Commission (John 20:21).
Why should I try the challenge?
Practicing prayer, fasting, and almsgiving for Lent is not easy. Many Catholics may not understand the purpose of Lent or often become overwhelmed during the experience. This challenge offers an opportunity to be educated while giving you simple and fun ways to endure Lent with the convenience of online support from other participating Catholics via social media networks.
The integration of Twitter, Facebook, and our website allows CBC to:
How can I join the challenge?
Download the two PDF files below, which include a cross-shaped Lenten season calendar and a guide to practice each day of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Once you download the files, you can either refer to it on your computer or print it out to post somewhere in your home or office.

Lenten Challenge Daily Guide
How does the challenge work?
Beginning on Ash Wednesday, February 17, refer to your cross calendar to see which color the day corresponds with. Each day will be colored orange, white, or purple. You may also visit the CBC website each day to see the daily Lenten Challenge.
- Orange = Prayer
- White = Fasting
- Purple = Almsgiving
- Black = Friday, Fast & Abstain from Meat
Then refer to your daily guide to see how you can practice that particular pillar of observance whether it be prayer, fasting, or almsgiving. Twitter and Facebook icons can be found throughout the guide and suggest how to interact via social media for that particular day.
If you decided to give up social media such as Twitter or Facebook for Lent this year or do not want to use the online interaction, you may consider keeping a written journal or an private online blog/vlog to reflect on each day.
